Can You Make Layers in Photoshop 3D?
- One way to produce a 3D effect on a layer is to use bevel and emboss. Start by opening a graphic you would like to add a 3D effect to, such as a button or text. Then go to the "Layers" panel, and select the layer you want to add the effect to. Go to the bottom of the "Layers" panel, and click the "FX" icon. This will bring up the "Blending Options." Select "Bevel and Emboss." A dialog box will open. Choose the emboss "Style" ("Outer" works well), and adjust the "Depth" and "Softness" settings until you like the preview. Click "OK."
- Another way to approach 3D effects in Photoshop is to use the light and shadow functions. Start by selecting the layer you want to apply the effect to. Use the select tool to select the object. Then go to "Filters," select "Render," and click "Lighting Effects." In the dialog box that opens, adjust the spotlight so that it is shining on the selected object from the lower right, and click "OK." Now click the "FX" icon under the "Layers" panel and select "Drop Shadow." In the dialog box, change the angle so the shadow stretches out toward the upper left.
- The quickest and simplest way to make a layer in Photoshop 3D is to import a 3D model into the document (this only works with Photoshop CS3 Extended or higher). Click "File," and click "Open." Browse to the 3D model you want to use, and select it. It will come into Photoshop on its own layer. Click that layer, and you can then use the 3D tools to rotate or position the object where you want it on the layer.
