    • 1). Remove the back cover and the battery from the Blackberry 8800 before you begin any cleaning procedure.

    • 2). Place the small flathead screwdriver in between the right side of the silver ring around the trackball and the phone housing. Slowly push out on the handle of the screwdriver until you feel the ring pop out of place. Then stick the screwdriver on the other side of the silver ring and do the same thing. Once the second side pops, you can pull the ring out of the 8800.

    • 3). Turn the phone over so that the trackball will fall out of its hole and onto the table. Put the phone down and pick up the trackball.

    • 4). Wet the brush with the isopropyl alcohol. Rub the trackball with the brush. Work it in for a few seconds and make sure that you get both sides of the ball.

    • 5). Pick up the Blackberry and turn it so that you can see the trackball opening. If your trackball was dirty, then the inside is dirty as well. Wet the brush with the alcohol again and rub against the inside of the opening. As long as your alcohol is 98 percent or higher, this will have no negative effect on the Blackberry.

    • 6). Take the trackball in your hand and position it so that the side with the metal leaf over the ball is pointing down. Place the trackball back into the opening on the phone. If you look at the trackball, you will see four prongs coming off of the housing, two facing one direction and two facing the opposite. When you place the trackball into the housing, these prongs should be facing left and right, not up and down.

    • 7). Place the silver ring over the trackball and push it back into place. There are three prongs on the underside of the silver ring. Position the ring so that these prongs are on the left, bottom and right sides. The ring will snap into place and your trackball should hopefully work better.
