Ceramic tile is a versatile choice when it comes to redecorating walls, floors and back splashes. Four-by-four-inch tile is one of the most commonly used of all ceramic tiles and comes in a variety of color options. For kitchen or bath and from living room to entryway, 4x4-inch ceramic tile can add to the beauty and durability of your home. - Most ceramic tile--when left in its original, unpainted state--is that of a mocha or reddish hue. These natural colors can be glazed to create a shiny finish through a process called monocottura, where ceramic tiles are fired and glazed all at once, or can be left untreated for a more earthy, natural look. Earth-toned, 4x4 ceramic tiles are often used in Southwestern decorating schemes. Earth-toned tiles are frequently used in entryway floors, living room floors and bathroom and kitchen walls and lend a look of warmth to the home.
- Bold-colored 4x4 ceramic tiles are often used in bathrooms and kitchens and come in a variety of colors. Some of the most popular bold colors include bright shades of blue, green, yellow and red, but can also come in more muted shades of navy, gray and royal blue. Because of their dramatic color, bold-colored tiles are often mixed and matched to create a pattern for back splashes in kitchens and tile designs in bathroom floors and showers. Bright shades of white can also be used to give the illusion of increased size to smaller rooms such as guest baths.
- Another commonly used 4x4-inch ceramic tile creates the look of rock, pebbles or stone. These tiles can be custom ordered to create the look and feel of authentic stone in bedrooms, living rooms, dens and family rooms to add a rustic look. Tiles that are of faux stone design are also often used as an accent around fireplaces and can also be used outdoors to help create the look of rock or stone around the entryway to a home, front door or outdoor walkway and are also often used in custom designed mailbox posts.
