How to Sew a Cat Stuffed Animal
- 1). Draw the pattern for your cat stuffed animal on a piece of paper, or download and print out a pattern from the Internet. Create the stuffed animal pattern the simplest way by drawing just the outline of the animal. Make the pattern one-half inch larger all the way around. Cut the outline out with a pair of scissors. Include pointy ears and a tail.
- 2). Fold a piece of fabric in half and place the pattern cut-out on top. Trace around the edge of the pattern with a pen. Remove the pattern and pin the two sides of the fabric together in the center of the outline so they remain together. Cut around the outline with a pair of scissors.
- 3). Paint, embroider or draw a face and other details such as spots or stripes on the fabric. The easiest method is to draw the face and details with fabric markers. Draw whiskers on the cat's cheeks, which extend out from his upside-down triangle nose, almond-shaped eyes with a slit for a pupil, and two curved lines extending upward from the bottom of his nose.
- 4). Sew the two sides of the fabric together, about 1/4-inch from the edges with a simple straight stitch. Use a thread that is a close match to the color of the fabric. Sew the tail first. Fill it with plush stuffing, pushing it in with the blunt end of a marker.
- 5). Sew the rest of the way around until you have a 2-inch opening at the bottom. Stuff it with more plush stuffing to get the desired thickness. Sew the opening shut. Stitch back and forth about five times to finish the line of stitches and so the stitches don't unravel.
