How to Decorate a Boring Lampshade
- 1). Remove your lampshade and place it on its side. Roll the cardboard around the lampshade and mark the endpoints with a pencil, which will create a template for your fabric.
- 2). Cut the pattern from the cardboard. When the ends are placed together, it should resemble the size and shape of your lampshade.
- 3). Place a thin, slightly transparent fabric, or a fabric with transparent areas in its pattern, onto the cardboard template. Cut the shape of the lampshade, leaving 1/2 inch at the top of the fabric to overlap the top of the lamp, and 1/4 inch for the side seams.
- 4). Place small droplets of craft glue onto the back of the fabric, preferably in darker areas of the pattern. Glue the fabric as evenly as possible onto your lampshade, including the top's overlap.
- 5). Run a thin line of glue down the side to reinforce the seam. Allow the shade to dry completely overnight.
- 1). Spread a thin line of glue along the base of the shade. Press the end of a colored crepe paper roll into the glue and slowly wrap it around the bottom edge.
- 2). Wrap the crepe streamer around the lampshade from the bottom up. Allow the edges to overlap for a layered striping effect.
- 3). Cut the streamer from the roll when you have wrapped the lampshade to the top. Glue the end in place. Do not let the crepe paper extend above the shade.
- 1). Punch holes around the base of the lampshade. Leave approximately 3 inches between each hole.
- 2). Thread a wire ornament hanger through each hole. You can also use simple thread in each hole for hanging small toys from the lampshade.
- 3). Place a miniature ball ornament on each wire ornament hanger. Do not let the ornaments hang too close together, as this can make turning the lamp on and off slightly difficult.
