Go Green Crafts
- Plastic flowers in your house are less expensive than live cut flowers and they last much longer. Work with your kids to help them craft a flower from a liter bottle and you'll have fun creating together and reduce the plastic going to a landfill. Cut the top third from a plastic liter bottle and draw petals coming from the cap. Cut around the petals' outline and paint them white. After the white paint dries, paint them any color you like and add glitter to give it some extra sparkle. After you finish painting, use a skewer through the cap for the stem. You also can cut leaves out of the bottom half of the bottle and thread them onto the skewer, too.
- The bottle bottoms left over after making flowers from liter bottles can be used to make baskets. All you need to do is cut the bottom 4 inches off the bottle for the bowl of the basket and another 1-inch strip above it from the handle. Cover the basket, inside and out, with fabric. You can cover the handle of the basket with the same fabric or a contrasting one. Use white glue to attach the fabric and staple on the handle. Now you've repurposed the whole bottle.
