How to Build a Tile Shower Room

104 226
    • 1). Measure the width of one wall of the shower to find the middle, using a tape measure. Draw a vertical line up the middle, using your level and pencil.

    • 2). Spread a line of thinset mortar over the lower half of the wall with your notched trowel.

    • 3). Press the bottom row of tiles in place, starting at the vertical line at the middle and working out toward the edges. The tabs on the sides of the tiles will space them from each other and from the floor. Cut the tile at the ends on a tile saw, as needed.

    • 4). Build up the wall, course by course, starting each course at the middle vertical line and working toward the sides. Spread additional mortar as needed. Cut around the shower fixtures with the tile saw. Do the whole wall, and the other walls. Let the tile set overnight.

    • 5). Apply grout to each wall, starting at the top and working downward, using a grout trowel to force the grout into the spaces between the tiles while squeezing it off the surface. Grout all the lines except the corners between the walls, and the bottom line between the walls and the floor.

    • 6). Wipe off the excess grout with a dampened sponge. Let it set overnight.

    • 7). Caulk the corners between the walls, and the bottom line between the walls and the floor.
