Poly Clay Spider Jewelry Projects

    Candy Mold Beads

    • Purchase spider-shaped candy molds (these are easiest to find around Halloween) and use them to create spider jewelry beads of identical shape and size. Use single colors, multiple colors or partially blended colors for a marble effect. For best results with your beads, make two molds for each bead and press them together, flat sides facing. With most shapes of spider molds, you'll also want to string the spider beads with at least three or four spacer beads in between to keep the legs of the spiders from getting in the way of one another.

    Spider Cabochon

    • Build a small, basic spider shape in black clay, or use the clay in a spider candy mold. Bake the spider to harden it. Create a red clay cabochon by pressing a ball of red clay into a metal cabochon pendant setting (you'll have to experiment a little to get the right amount of clay and the right semi-round shape). Before baking the cabochon, press the black spider into the red clay and partly submerge it. After the second baking, coat the spider cabochon with varnish or polyurethane.

    Millifiori Spiders

    • The basic shape of a spider is simple enough to do in millifiori (though it may take a little practice to get it right, especially if you're new to this art). With millifiori, a two-dimensional image is embedded into a cane of clay. When cut, the cross section shows the image. Make a spider cane using an extrusion tool; build it from a large circle, a small circle, and eight small curved line shapes. Attach these to make a spider cane.

    Spiders on Bead Earrings

    • Start with large, round beads of a solid color made of glass, metal or ceramic. Sculpt a tiny spider from two balls of black clay (one slightly larger than the other) and eight short pieces of a thin, rolled clay snake. Blend the pieces using the tip of a needle. Press the spiders gently over the beads, then bake. Turn the beads into earrings using a threading wire and wire earring loops. The result will look like spiders crawling on a pair of regular bead earrings.

    Spider Ring

    • Start with a plain metal ring band. Create a small sculpted spider or candy-molded spider of any color you like. Press it against the band to indent the band's shape on the spider's underside. If you like, press a tiny rhinestone into the spider's abdomen clay. Bake the spider, then glue it onto the ring band using superglue or silicone adhesive.
