How to Install Drawers in a Cabinet
- 1). Measure the drawer to determine the length of gliding mechanism needed. Take these measurements to the store and choose compatible metal side glides for the drawer. Note that if the drawer comes with its own gliding mechanism, as some drawers with short metal sides do, you do not have to purchase additional hardware.
- 2). Prepare your workspace by cleaning the inside of the cabinet . Dust off any dirt and check to see if the inside area where the drawer will be mounted is completely clean.
- 3). Place the glide on the side of the drawer hole in the cabinet. Make sure to have the bottom rail on the bottom of the drawer hole and the front lid perfectly lined with the front outside surface of the cabinet. Remember that the manufacturer usually indicates which glider is left and which is right. Still, check the instructions just to make sure that you placed the glider correctly.
- 4). Hold the glider in place and use a level to ensure that it is horizontal; mark the places for the screws with a pencil. If there are no pre-drilled holes in the inside of the cabinet, drill them with a power drill.
- 5). Install the glider in its place by securing it with 1/4-inch screws. There will be two or more screws in the front and in the back of the glider. Tighten all of the screws by using a Phillips head screwdriver.
- 6). Install the other glider by repeating steps 3 to 5 for the other side of the drawer.
- 7). Lift the drawer up to the level of the gliders. Insert the wheels at the back of the drawer into the rails of the glider. Push the drawer all the way back.
