Spread the Grout with a Rigid Float

• One of the best tips for applying grout to vinyl tiles is to use the right tool. Purchase a rigid float, a tool that allows you to spread material evenly over a surface without applying pressure, and spread the grout between the tiles using the smooth flat surface of the float. Use a back-and-forth wiping motion to apply grout evenly to the vinyl-tile surface. Select a sanded grout for a floor design and an unsanded grout for a wall tile design.
  
  

Avoid Overspill

• If you want to decrease the amount of time it takes to clean up the tiled area when the project is finished, avoid as much overspill as possible. Spread the grout in the direction of the line between the vinyl tiles to avoid clumping and smearing. Wipe excess grout off the solid float as you apply new mixture to each space between tiles.
  
  

Let Dry for 10 Minutes

• Once you have grouted between all the tiles, an important tip is to let the grout dry for 10 minutes before you do anything else. Do not clean up any excess grout on the tiles until the mixture has dried for a minimum of 10 minutes. If you immediately start cleaning up overspill, you might damage the newly applied grout. The grout will not dry completely within that short amount of time but will harden and solidify to some degree.
  
  

Mist with Water and Remove Excess

• Once the grout has dried for a minimum of 10 minutes, mist the floor lightly with water. This tip is important because it allows you to wipe excess grout off the tile without scratching the vinyl surface. For difficult areas, mist the tile heavily to loosen excess grout. Avoid spraying water directly on the grout lines between the vinyl tiles. Do not use any chemicals to remove the grout overspill.
