HP Photosmart C7180 All-in-One - the printer that has it all but underperforms
The Photosmart C7180 is an all-in-one that can print, scan, copy and fax. The printer features an Ethernet card, its wireless, contains a PictBridge port, a media card reader, built-in Bluetooth and support options, but is pretty slow at all its tasks.
Features
The HP Photosmart C7180 occupies a lot of space and measures 18.3" in width, 15.4" in depth and 8.5" in height, and weighs around 26 pounds, which is heavy. The scanner can accommodate a maximum size of A4-size originals. The printer lacks an automatic document feeder and hence no batch copies or scans.
There are four media card slots and a USB Pictbridge port that enables PC-free printing in the front of the printer. The C7180 also has a built-in Bluetooth, allowing wireless printing from Bluetooth-enabled PDAs, phones or cameras.
The C7180 has a six-ink system that uses the HP 363 ink cartridges. The ink tank system on the C7180 is easy to access - all you need to do is lift the scanner portion of the printer, and you'll locate the six front-mounted tanks.
The most surprising feature of the C7180 is the fax. The scan menu has nothing new to talk about. It's the same as any all-in-one. However, the C7180 lacks the ability to automatically scan the document into a number of formats - JPEG,TIFF or PDF.
The copy option allows the user to make up to 50 copies at once. The copies can be reduced, enlarged and even adjusted for the quality of the output.
Performance
The HP Photosmart C7180 has an average performance when it comes to printing text, with a print speed of 5.28 pages per minute. Furthermore, the print speed of 4x6" photos was 0.89ppm, while the scans were also pretty slow at 3.94ppm for black-and-white and 3.97ppm for color.
The print quality is good, especially the photo prints and the scan quality also was good, however the text and graphics prints were average.
Service and support
The Photosmart C7180 is backed by HP with a one year standard warranty.
