How to Replace Saturn Brake Pads
- 1). Park the Saturn on a flat work area and apply the emergency brake. Slide a floor jack under the lift point at the desired location, either the passenger or driver side, to remove the wheel. Raise the car slightly and loosen the four lug nuts using a tire iron.
- 2). Raise the wheel completely off the ground and remove the four lug nuts and the wheel to expose the brake caliper. Locate the top and bottom bolts that secure the caliper in place. Remove the top bolt using a ratchet or wrench. Swing the caliper back so that it pivots on the bottom bolt to expose the brake pads. Slide the worn brake pads out.
- 3). Place a C-clamp over the caliper body. Rest one side of the C-clamp at the rear of the caliper body. Place the other end of the C-clamp against the caliper piston. Adjust the C-clamp so the caliper piston is squeezed back into the housing. Remove the C-clamp.
- 4). Apply a small amount of brake grease to the back plate of the replacement brake pad and insert it into the caliper. Swing the caliper down over the rotor using the bottom bolt as a pivot. Align the top bolt hole on the caliper and thread in the bolt. Tighten the bolt with a ratchet or wrench.
- 5). Replace the wheel and four lug nuts. Lower the wheel to the ground and check the lug nuts with a tire iron to make sure they are secure. Repeat the above steps on the opposite tire.
- 6). Press the brake pedal a few times to seat the new pads against the rotors properly before you start the engine. Check the brake fluid and add more if needed.
