Create a New Habit - Learn How to Redesign Yourself in 7 Days

103 19
The problem with setting goals is that we sabotage our efforts by not making the actions necessary to achieve our goals a daily habit.
When I started this process several weeks ago, it seemed just natural that I should be doing something every single day toward achieving my goal, but I wasn't doing it.
After the second week, fighting every single step of the way to achieve my goal, I realized it had to become something I wanted to do and I would have to do it because it came natural to me to do 'that one thing' that had to be done.
I'm not really a creature of habitually doing anything.
This process of creating a habit was going to be hard.
But, I was determined so I set up a few basic, elemental rules that I had to follow to begin with, and wrote them down.
The first day, following those written steps was pretty hard, but I followed all 7 steps, one at a time, one right after the other, within a set time frame and accomplished the first day's goal.
The second day, I still had to read every step and consciously follow the steps to get the project accomplished.
(Mind you, it wasn't easy to get started on day two, but I did it!) The third day, I realized I had to have a motivation factor, a reason and a set time to get started.
I set the alarm on my phone and my motivation factor was plugging my cell phone into the outlet, and then moving right into the action of step one.
It worked.
Day four started as the alarm went off.
Phone plugged in and my next motion was step one.
I completed the task two minutes ahead of schedule and rewarded myself with a happy dance for being done on time.
A two minute happy dance, no dips, and I went back to the task and did it again.
YAY! I completed the project twice on day four.
Day five started same as day four, and I finished two projects, skipped the happy dance and created a few quick outlines for template starters on the project, so I could help others achieve goals too.
This was fun.
Day six, I completed the projects before the kids had to start getting ready for church and I was moving forward fast.
I finished even more templates, the continuation of the projects.
Day seven, the projects came even easier and I completed more templates, and added a third step to the program.
I had developed a good habit of starting motivated, staying motivated and following the given steps.
On day 7, I hadn't even needed to check the steps to take to get done what needed to be done.
Everything came easy.
Once you figure out the process and what it takes to motivate yourself to do it, do it the same way, and do it over and over again, you're on your way to creating a good habit.
Just do that...
