How to Crochet and Use Double Ended Needles

    • 1). Chain as many stitches as the pattern requires.

    • 2). Use the crochet hook to pull the first row of stitches through each chain stitch just as you would if you were working in single crochet, but leaving the stitches on the hook. Do not crochet the stitches, just pull one loop through each stitch until you have a row of stitches on the body of your double-ended hook.

    • 3). Drop your working yarn and turn the hook around. Pick up the second ball of yarn.

    • 4). Pull one loop of the new working yarn through the first loop on your crochet hook. If desired, leaving a 3-inch tail to be woven in later.

    • 5). Wrap the yarn around the hook from right to left (also called a yarn over, or YO) and pull the yarn through the next two loops on hook. You will pull through one loop of the new color and one loop of the previous color.

    • 6). Repeat step five until you come to the end of the row. Do not turn your work. You will have one loop on your hook, which will count as the first loop of the next row.

    • 7). Insert the hook into the second vertical bar of the first color of yarn. This is the second stitch from the loop on your hook.

    • 8). Reload the hook with stitches by pulling a loop through each vertical bar, all the way across the row. When you get to the last vertical bar, insert the hook behind both it and the vertical bar behind it, which is the last stitch at the end of the row.

    • 9). Repeat Steps 4 through 8. Carry the two colors of yarn up the edge of your crochet as you work; you do not need to cut them.
