How to Remove a Shower Door Frame
- 1). Place a sheet in the bottom of the shower stall or tub. Remove the screws that secure the door retainer to the inside bottom rail with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the retainer away from the shower door rail.
- 2). Grasp the inner door panel on both sides and lift while pulling the lower half of the panel toward you. Pull the panel out of the upper track and move the panel out of the work area. Grasp the second panel from inside the tub with both hands. Lift the panel up into the top track while pulling the lower half of the panel toward you. Pull the panel out of the upper track and move the panel out of the work area.
- 3). Look for screws securing the ends of the top track to the side of the shower door frame. The screws are on the inside corners or on top of the track at the corners. Remove the screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Tap the bottom of the top track at each corner with a rubber mallet to disengage the track from the sides.
- 4). Remove the screws securing the side jambs of the frame to the shower walls. The screws are in the jamb channel that the doors slide into. Normally there are three to four screws in each jamb. Remove the screws with the screwdriver. Remove the screws on the inside bottom corner of the lower track that secure the jamb sides to the lower track.
- 5). Score the caulking along the seam between the jamb frame and the wall with a utility knife. Insert a putty knife in between the top of the side jamb and the wall. Pull the side jamb away from the wall, starting at the top. Use the putty knife to break away any caulk as you pull the side jamb free. Repeat the process for the other side jamb.
- 6). Score the caulking between the bottom track and the tub or shower with the utility knife. Insert the putty knife under one end and pull the bottom track away from the tub or shower. Remove any residual caulk around the shower with the putty knife.
