  As technology increases, so do the features that come with a measuring tape. The most common feature on a measuring tape is the clip that keeps the tape from retracting while the measurement is being recorded. One particular tape is equipped with a flashlight, an LED readout and a calculator. Other features include the specific use of the measuring tape such as the circumference of a circle or the calculations of body mass index. In addition to these, the consumer will find measuring tapes that use a laser to measure distances instead of a steel tape.

• Ultrasonic Measuring Tape
  
  One of the greatest benefits in the measuring tape industry is found on the ultrasonic measuring tape. This tape uses laser pointers to aim it in the direction needed. Although it is recommended by the manufacturer to be used indoors, the ultrasonic measuring tape will calculate cubic feet and square feet. The LCD screen shows the information needed and does all the calculations for you. It also converts to metric or standard measurements. It will even measure up to 40 feet.
  
  

Size

• Lengthy Measuring Tapes
  
  Here is another example where size matters. If the project calls for lengthy measurements, a 250-foot measuring tape could be what is needed. These measuring tapes usually have a "stake" on the bottom so the user can plant it in the ground so one man can do the measuring. The tape itself is made of steel wrapped in nylon ensuring a long life. The tape also comes in 100- and 300-foot lengths.
