How to Repair the LCD Display on an Apple Cinema A1081
- 1). Unplug the display panel's power cord, and disconnect the data cable from your computer. Relocate the monitor to a flat work surface. Lay down a soft towel or cloth, and place the monitor with the screen facing downward on the cloth.
- 2). Loosen the three hex screws fastening the monitor's base stand to the back of the display panel. Remove the base stand from the display panel's casing carefully.
- 3). Loosen and remove the 10 hex screws from the display panel's back casing. Grasp the outer edges of the back panel casing, and remove it from the monitor assembly. Remove the thin, plastic cover revealed by the back panel casing.
- 4). Unscrew the eight Phillips-head screws from the EMI shield. This is the aluminum cover that conceals the back side of the LCD screen, and all connecting wires and circuit boards. Peel away the foil tape securing the shield in place. Remove the EMI shield from the monitor assembly.
- 5). Remove all visible Phillips-head screws, and disconnect all cables from the two circuit boards inside the monitor assembly. The circuit board in the middle is the main power board, and the circuit board to the side is the inverter board. This transfers power from the main circuit board to the LCD screen.
- 6). Loosen the Phillips-head screws securing each circuit board in place. Remove the two boards from the monitor. Loosen and remove the eight Phillips-head screws fastening the LCD screen to the Cinema Display's front panel. Lift the LCD screen out of the monitor assembly.
- 7). Remove the remaining Phillips-head screws fastening the LCD screen to its metal framing. Lift the broken LCD screen out of the metal frame, and throw away the bad screen.
- 8). Reverse this procedure to install the new LCD screen.
