My Girlfriend Says She Wants Space - What This Really Means for You

103 15
Your girlfriend says she wants space.
She might as well be talking in a different language.
When a person says they need space it's open-ended and confusing.
Does she mean she needs more time to herself? Is she talking about seeing other people or is she suggesting a break up? Obviously, if she's considering ending the relationship you don't want to push her towards it.
Although her words may not be crystal clear the message behind them is.
Whenever a woman tells the man she's involved with that she wants space the bottom line is that she wants space from him.
Naturally it's going to sting when you realize that the space she wants is space away from you.
That's a blessing in disguise though and you need to view it as such.
The fact that she's not officially breaking up with you at this point shows that she's not ready to cut all ties.
That essentially means that she has some lingering feelings for you.
Those are the feelings you're going to focus on so you can rebuild the relationship again.
Your understanding of her wants and needs is crucial right now.
If you present yourself as someone who wants her to be happy first and foremost, she'll be touched by that.
She'll see it as a sign that you do truly love her and in the heart of a woman who is sitting on the fence regarding her break up, that can make all the difference in the world.
Work with her to establish clear communication.
You have to get to a point where she'll feel comfortable enough to share anything with you.
That's going to be an uphill battle given how she feels about the relationship at the moment.
Just ensure you explain to her that she's incredibly important to you and you want to learn everything you can about how she's feeling.
You have to promise to listen when she talks and tell her that you'll do your best to not overreact.
She needs to hear that and see it so she can start sharing her needs with you again.
A little distance may be a good thing for both of you.
Right now your view is clouded with the fear that she'll be leaving you at any moment.
She feels focused on the fact that she needs time away because she's unsure of where things are headed.
A few days or weeks apart will serve to give you both a chance to think in a much clearer fashion.
Don't view this as the beginning of the end.
Instead, see it as a step towards reuniting with a more focused vision of how much the relationship means to both of you.
