Hardwood Flooring Installation Near a Slider
- 1). Install the flooring, ending 1 inch from the edge of the sliding door.
- 2). Cut the threshold to the width of the slider, using a miter saw and box to achieve an even, smooth edge.
- 3). Run a bead of 100-percent silicone along the edge of the hardwood. This will seal the floor from moisture in the required expansion gap.
- 4). Apply construction adhesive to the bottom of the threshold piece, and set it into place with the flat edge against the slider and the tapered edge overlapping the hardwood, taking care to maintain the expansion gap between the bottom of the threshold and the hardwood.
- 5). Seal the edge of the slider with another bead of silicone; avoid use of the slider until the silicone can completely cure according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
