This may come to you as a surprise, but there is a very big difference between setting and achieving goals.
In this article, I'm going to share with you what the two keys are to make sure that whatever you do, you will be able to succeed in setting and achieving goals that you want.
The first key is to know clearly what you want and to find out you must first do three things.
Number one is to clarify your values.
There are many ways to clarify your values.
One of the most common way and simplest way is to find out for yourself what is important to you.
Who makes you angry and why do they make you angry.
What actions are you irritated? What do you feel most passionate about? That would give you a clue on what values you have within yourself.
Second thing you need to do to discover what you want is to discover what your mission is.
This may be a little bit hokey pokey but all of us have a mission in life and you have to discover what your mission is.
It is really pointless for you to be setting and achieving goals if none of those goals point towards what you really should be doing in your life.
So before you set any goal, you must first to discover your mission.
The third thing you must do to have success in setting and achieving goals is to discover your identity.
Knowing your mission is one thing, but if you were to discover your identity then your mission and values become all the more clear.
In Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP for short, there is an exercise known as symbol work.
It helps you to find what is that one metaphor or that one object or action which symbolizes you.
For my mentor, it is a lighthouse.
For many other people it is beams of light.
The reason is because people want to guide other people to success.
So what is your symbol? When you are very clear about what symbolizes you then you have discovered your identity.
With that, discovering your mission and clarifying your values become so much easier.
After you have done all that, setting and achieving goals will become very easy for you because you know exactly what you want.
The second key to success in setting and achieving goals is to have a very clear action plan.
Use a mind map to map out everything you need to do to achieve the goals that you set for yourself.
One important factor to accelerating your success to setting and achieving goals is to have something known as the 36-hour plan.
What that means is that you must do three actions within a span of 36 hours to move you closer to your goal.
The actions can be very small such as a buying a spiral notebook.
You can be as simple as that.
But what the 36-hour plan does for you is that it overcomes one huge monster known as inertia and builds for you an angel known as momentum.
When you have inertia and momentum working for you, you'll realize that setting and achieving goals is all that simpler.
With your mind map, you can also map what are the resources you have and what are the resources you need.
State clearly what is your timeline to achieve your goals and also what is the one big reward or the small rewards along the way that you would give to yourself as you move closer and closer to setting and achieving the goals that you want for yourself.
