How to Install Sliding Pocket Doors
- 1). Find out if the wall in your home is a nonstructural partition or load-bearing. Determine if there is plumbing or whether wiring is present. Remove the door. Pull off the molding, place a reciprocating saw blade into the gap. The nails around the shims should be cut at this point. Use a metal-cutting blade to clip the nails, then tip the door.
- 2). Make shallow cuts by tipping down the saw. Remove the drywall between the studs and above the header. Take out the partition header, using a reciprocating saw to complete the process. Cut the studs. This makes available room for the new frame. Find out the measurements of the new header before cutting the stud tops to length.
- 3). After determining the measurements for the door, cut the stud tops. Install a new stud, then screw the new header into place. Carefully cut and fit the soleplate to the floor at this point.
- 4). Utilize a hacksaw on the channel. Use a handsaw to cut the nailers. Check the channel for level. Attach the channel to the studs with end brackets, then place the split studs into the floor brackets. Nail the studs to the header after making sure that they're tipping upright. Carefully nail the floor brackets to the soleplate. Slide the wheeled carriages into the track after mounting hangers on top of the door. Connect the hangers to the carriages. Adjust the assembly. At this point the door should hang correctly. Now install the pulls and latches.
- 5). The drywall should be secured with screws and panel adhesives. After applying the drywall and tape, remove any excess compound left. Sand the material after it dries, then put on the next layer of compound. The door's trim casing should be cut and installed at this point.
