Make a slip knot in your crochet thread and tighten it around the neck of your crochet hook. Make a foundation chain of 26 chain stitches plus three additional chains, then make three more chains for the turning chain. For each unevenly numbered row, work from the right to the left side of the pattern and for each evenly numbered row, work from the left to the right side of the pattern. - 2

Make one double crochet stitch into the fourth chain from your hook, then into each chain stitch of your foundation chain. Turn your work. Working from left to right for row two, make one double crochet each into the first three double crochet stitches and chain two stitches. Skip two double crochet stitches and stitch into the second chain from your hook. Continue to chain two and skip two stitches to the end of row two--these will be open meshes. End row two with a closed mesh by crocheting three double crochet stitches in the last three stitches of row two. - 3). Crochet rows three and four as you did row two.
