How to Butt Ends of Elastic When Sewing
- 1). Place the two ends of elastic together and pin them into place so they do not move when you are sewing.
- 2). Thread your needle using a thread that is strong enough to hold the elastic firmly and will not break. Bring your needle from underneath through one piece of the elastic at the end. Now make a single straight stitch across the "butt" and into the other piece of elastic coming out underneath.
- 3). Make a stitch across the underneath of the butt and come out the other side so you are back on the first piece of elastic. Repeat this all the way along the line of the "butt." Make the stitches very close together to make a stronger join.
- 4). Place the needle and thread through your last stitch in the line and make a knot to tie off the end. Cut the thread.
