    Brass Wire Crafts Ideas

    • For the holidays, you can create brass wire ornaments. Make a simple Christmas tree with several lengths of wire starting at a hook/point on top (for hanging). Each of the strands comes down and ends in a curl, unfurling like the branches of the tree. Or weave the wire into shapes, making flat shapes, such as hearts, or three-dimensional shapes, such as ball ornaments. With a lot of wire, you can even weave (bend) it into the shape of a wreath. Thread on red beads for a festive touch. These ornaments and wreaths make nice gifts, too.

Christmas is not the only holiday that wire crafts can liven up. Decorate for Halloween with little wire ghosts, and Easter with wire eggs. You can make craft ornaments for every holiday.

And you can always use brass wire and beads to make a gemstone tree. Start with something heavy for the base, such as a block of wood. Drill a hole and insert from a bolt from the bottom. This will be the base for starting the wire tree. Wrap the wire around the protruding bolt and continue wrapping, or coiling, the wire to create branches. Periodically, wrap in beads to represent the gemstone leaves on your sculpture.

Use brass wire to make jewelry. You can make basic wire-only jewelry using a braided wire and bending it around for bracelets, rings and necklaces. You can string on beads or make a wire ring-shaped necklace and hang a pendant from it.

Make a wire bookmark. Simply take a length of wire and begin by curling one end in a loop. Twist the wire up from the middle so that you have another end for the second loop, and a loop in the center. Bend the center loop into a shape you like, such as a heart, star or diamond. The two loops at the top go over the page while the shape marks it.

Use the wire to make a frame for a large crystal and create a sun catcher. Hang your sun catcher in a window and let the sunlight stream though, casting rainbows. Your sun catcher frame can be as simple or ornate as you wish, depending on how elaborately you twist and shape the wire.

Use wire to create modern art. A wooden board can serve as your "canvas." Make flat and three-dimensional shapes by twisting the brass wire and mount these shapes onto your wooden canvas to create a sculpture. What you create can be purely modern in design, perhaps even cubist, with geometric and fanciful shapes. Or you might make shapes of people, buildings and things that create a scene. Use your imagination.
