How to Sew a Simplicity Welt Pocket
- 1). Cut a piece of interfacing 2 inches wide and 2 inches longer than the pocket opening. Baste the interfacing to the wrong side of the garment fabric where the pocket will be.
- 2). Draw a line to designate the pocket on the interfacing.
- 3). Cut two pieces of the lining fabric to proper size for the pocket pouch. Pin the right side of one of the pouch pieces to the right side of the garment.
- 4). Stitch one-quarter inch around the pocket line on the interfacing through the interfacing, garment and one side of the pouch. Remove the pins.
- 5). Cut the line. Cut a diagonal snip between the end of the pocket cut and the corner of the stitching. Snip all four corners.
- 6). Push the pouch lining through the newly cut hole. Smooth the edges with your fingers. The lining will naturally pleat at either end of the pocket. Stitch the pleat in place. Press the pocket.
- 7). Stitch the second piece of the pocket pouch to the first with a half-inch seam allowance. Do not stitch the outer fabric of the garment. Press the entire pocket with pouch.
