There are many different ways you can find the appropriate dumbbells; most experts recommend that you purchase them from a sports store or gym that has a large dumbbell weight set to choose from, this way you will not have to buy them all just to find the right one.
Begin by picking up various dumbbell sizes to test their weight, make sure to try both arms because most people's right arms are stronger than their left one.
Start with the lowest weight and work your way up to the higher ones.
If you have not done weights previously, you should stay away from the heavy ones or you may injure yourself.
Now you should have a range of weights that you can properly lift.
Pick up a dumbbell that is in mid range and do 10 to 15 repetitions.
The exact exercises you do will depend on what muscles you want to work so do the exercises that you have in mind.
Remember that in you will need to do a balance of many difference exercises to properly proportion your body, so if you may need to purchase a range of different weight sets for each kind of workout you will do.
Once you have completed the repetitions, decide whether or not the weight suite you.
If you had no trouble lifting it, then it is probably to light for you.
If you could barely lift the weight or strained your muscles, then it is too heavy.
You should be able to do the 10 - 15 sets with some difficult and muscle wear.
When working out with dumbbell weights, you are essentially tearing your muscles in order to make them grow bigger and stronger.
Muscle tearing can sound painful, but it is necessary in order to have a good workout.
As you tear your muscle cells, they grow back even stronger and you get bigger muscles as a result, and each workout you continue that process.
When buying weights, it is important to remember that as you get stronger you will likely need to continue buying heavier weights so you can continue to push your body.
Buying weights is a financial investment but is well worth the cost.
