How to Replace Mobile Home Paneling With Drywall

    • 1). Use a claw hammer and a pry bar to remove all of the mobile home paneling that you want to replace with drywall. Use the claw side of the hammer to remove all of the finishing nails to secure the paneling to the studs in the wall. Once the edges are partially lifted, you can slip the pry bar between the paneling and the stud to gently pry it off.

    • 2). Use the hammer to tap in or remove any nails that are sticking out of the stud. Do this so that the drywall will lay flat.

    • 3). Use a tape measure to find the exact length and width of the wall. Divide the width by 4 feet, as a sheet of drywall is 4 feet wide, to find out how many sheets wide the wall is. Divide the length of the wall, or how high it is from floor to ceiling, to find out how many sheets tall the wall is.

    • 4). Use a tape measure, straight edge and marking pencil to measure and mark the new sheets of drywall. Draw clear, dark cut lines on the drywall by running the marking pencil along the straight edge several times.

    • 5). Cut the drywall to size using a drywall saw.

    • 6). Hold the drywall up to the wall, starting in a corner where the edge of the drywall will meet the edge of the other wall in the corner. Butt the drywall up into the corner tightly and use a cordless drill to insert 1 ½ inch screws every 4 inches vertically along each stud. Secure all pieces aligned straight with the first piece installed.
