How to Determine the Ripeness of Mangos
- 1). Examine the mango. The stem end should be round and smooth rather than shriveled. A few brown spots are normal but the skin should be unbroken and free of large bruises.
- 2). Squeeze the mango gently. If it yields to gentle pressure, it is ripe and ready to eat. If it feels firm, it will ripen in a few days if left on the counter at room temperature.
- 3). Smell the stem end. A ripe mango gives off a rich, fruity aroma at the ends.
