How to Make a Knotted Beaded Bracelet
- 1). Cut 24 inches of cord and fold it in half.
- 2). Lay the cord on a flat work surface with the loop at the top, and open ends at the bottom. Tape the open ends to the work surface.
- 3). Thread the needle, then double the thread and knot the ends. Lay the knotted end of the thread just below the center of the loop in the cord. Bring the needle once around the cord and back up the other side, between the two threads, just above the knot. This loops the thread around itself on the cord and secures it.
- 4). Thread the beads onto the needle. Push the beads down the thread and onto the cord. Slide all the beads down onto the cord, with both strands running through the center of the beads.
- 5). Cut the thread and remove it from the cord.
- 6). Fold the remaining 4 feet of cord in half. Match the loop in the new piece of cord to the loop in the cord with the beads on it, so they lie together in a bunch, with four strands. The top centers of the loop on each cord should line up.
- 7). Tie an overhand knot 1/2 inch down from the top of the loops in the two cords, knotting the four strands together. Make an overhand knot by taking the center ends of the cord loops down, around and over the strands to form a loop. Bring the ends, or the heads of the loops, behind the strands and up through the loop. Tighten the cord.
- 8). Tie an overhand knot on the bottom of the two strands of cord with the beads, but leave the two strands on the other cord loose. Make the knot at the very end of the two cords. Remove the tape during the knotting process, keeping the beads on the cords.
- 9). Pin the loops at the top of the cords to a pillow, your pant leg or a large piece of foam. You can also tape them to a wall or table. Arrange the strands so the two center cords with the beads hang straight down the middle. The other two cords should be at the outside, one cord to each side.
- 10
Bring the left side cord over the center cords, leaving a small loop out to the left side. Now pass it under the right side cord. - 11
Move the right side cord under the center cords, leaving a small loop out to the right. This loop should have the cord you passed from the left running through the center of it. - 12
Put the end of the right side cord up through the small loop you kept open on the left. Pull the ends of both cords to tighten them into a square knot. - 13
Make three more square knots. Don't over tighten the knots; they should lie flat and even. - 14
Slide one bead up the center cords to the bottom of the last square knot you made. Make another square knot under the bead, so the outside cords wrap around the bead, holding it in place. Make two more square knots, for a total of three. - 15
Slide another bead up the center cords, and make three more square knots. Continue pushing beads up and making three square knots between them until you have used all the beads. There should be one bead approximately every inch. - 16
Add four square knots after the last bead. Check the bracelet for length. Add square knots if necessary to lengthen. - 17
Tie an overhand knot in all four cords to end the bracelet. Snip off the tails of the cords. Push this knot through the loops at the top of the bracelet to close it.
