Macbeth and Shakespeare

Shakespeare wrote the tragedy Macbeth in 1623 loosely based on Holinshed's Chronicles.
Raphael Holinshed belonged to a family from Cheshire.
In 1560 he lived in London working as a translator for Reginald Wolfe.
After Wolfe's death in 1573 Holinshed's work appeared with a lot of illustrations.
These chronicles were popular with a lot of playwrights, especially William Shakespeare.
Macbeth was King of Scotland who reigned 1634 until 1640, and was the subject of some of Hollinshed's publications.
The play Macbeth is based on lots of true facts, but is really fiction with just enough facts to make it sound like it actually happened.
King Duncan I did in fact rule in Scotland from1034 until 1040 AD.

After that Macbeth ruled in the southern districts of Scotland, and his other cousin Thorfin ruled in the northern districts.
Dorothy Dunnett, a Shakespere historian, felt after much research that Macbeth and Thorfin were really the same person, with Macbeth being his baptismal name.
This is not known with certainty.
Macbeth ruled for about 17 years before Duncan's son, Malcolm, killed him.
William Shakespeare, the author of Macbeth, was the most famous playwright of all time.
He wrote 37 plays, Macbeth being his 29th, and 4 poems.
That's 25 years of writing.
William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1554.
He grew up in a small town called Stratesford on the banks of the Avon River.
He was married to Anne Hathaway in 1582.
Shakespeare had three children including a set of twins.
No one knows what his cousin Macbeth killed him in August of 1040 that happened to Shakespeare for many years until he surfaced in 1592 as an actor and playwright in London.
