    Recording

    • The Sony voice recorder features a recording system that captures two-track audio onto one channel. Audio is recorded to a normal Type-I and can record at two specified speeds: 4.8 or 2.4 centimeters per second. The tape deck is on the front of the device and can be accessed by grasping both sides of the tape chamber door with one hand and pulling it open. The internal speaker size is approximately 5 centimeters in diameter and is on top of the recorder to the right.

    Jacks

    • The TCM-230DV contains one microphone mini input jack atop the recorder to the right of the internal microphone; this disables the internal microphone when plugged in. To the right of the microphone jack is a headphone jack. A supplied power adapter plugs into the bottom of the recorder by way of the "DC In" 3-volt jack. The adapter feeds power into the recorder after it's plugged into a standard AC wall outlet.

    Batteries

    • For portability, the recorder operates on two 3-volt DC rechargeable AA batteries that can be installed on the back of the recorder by opening the battery chamber cover and sliding them in according to polarity. The 230DV comes with a battery-charger adapter, which charges the batteries after they've been inserted into the charger. The supplied AC adapter plugs into the side of the charger and, the other end, into an AC wall outlet. An indicator light atop the charger illuminates as the batteries charge.

    Buttons

    • The recorder operates by nine controls. The "Record" button on the left edge begins recording audio to tape when pushed. The "Stop" button beside the "Record button stops recording and playback. The "Play" button beside the "Stop" button begins playback of the recorded audio. The "Rew" (rewind) and "FF" (fast forward) buttons go backward and forward through recorded audio respectively. Flip the "Pause" switch on the left edge to pause recording mode. Adjust the "Volume" knob on top of the recorder to raise or lower the output sound. The "Rec Time/ Play Mode" switch on the front specifies the recording or playback mode. The "Speed Control" knob controls the playback speed.
