The Best Way to Mix Urethane Resins
- 1). Place two clean and dry plastic containers onto a flat work surface to hold the separate components mixed to form the urethane resin.
- 2). Pour the components into the containers, using a separate container for each of the two components that make up the resin. Consult the manufacturer's instructions to determine the amount of curative and the amount of prepolymer to place in each container according to the stated mixing ratio. Most urethane resins will call for equal amounts. Measure out only the amount that you plan to use within 15 or 25 minutes of mixing to avoid the resin curing while in the bucket.
- 3). Pour the contents of both plastic containers into a bucket large enough to hold the two substances. Stir the two together with a wooden stirring stick. Use a consistent, moderate stirring motion that avoids creating air bubbles in the resin. Air bubbles will harden within the resin, ruining its clarity. Stir for 45 seconds or until no sign of the separate substances remains.
- 4). Use the mixture immediately upon mixing.
