How to Block Phone Numbers From Spoofing

104 40
  • 1). Block "unknown" or "private" calls from your phone. Spoofing doesn't just include instances where someone is assuming the fake name and number, it also includes callers who choose to mask their Caller ID information. The instructions differ depending on your phone. Therefore, dial "611" to reach your home phone or cell phone provider. Ask the agent about blocking "unknown" or "private" calls. You may or may not have to pay a fee to add this service to your line.

  • 2). Sign up for an online service that unmasks spoofed caller identity. For example, when someone using a fake number calls you, these services will capture the call and reroute it to your phone using the caller's actual number. Several providers exist, including TrapCall or HarassingCall.com, which can be found in Resources. Be prepared to enter your phone number and name and to pay any service fees to use these services.

  • 3). Block an individual number from your phone. If you know that a particular number is spoofed, you likely can block that caller from calling your number. This service is not available on all cellular and home phone lines. For example, AT&T home phone users dial "*60" and follow the prompts to enter an individual number to block.
