How to Troubleshoot Pump Priming in Above Ground Pool Filters

104 274
    • 1). Check for leaks in the pump at the joints of the pool pump. Check the strainer cover for a loose O-ring. Lift up the strainer housing cover to see the state of the O-ring.

    • 2). Check the water level in the pool. A low water level will reduce the pump's ability to prime. Fill the water level to the highest point possible.

    • 3). Check that the pump lid is on tight to reduce air entering the system.

    • 4). Remove the skimmer baskets from the side of the pool as well as from the pump itself and check them for debris. Debris will reduce the suction power of the pump and reduce the priming potential.

    • 5). Check that the pump has proper power by checking the circuit breaker to the system. Call a service technician if the power goes out during the pool priming process.
