Specific Medicaid Programs in Utah include the Prenatal program, the Pregnant Women program, the Post-natal program, the Newborn program, the Newborn Plus program and the Child program. There are also grant programs available for subsidized adoption, special medical needs, families who have under-aged children, refugees, those who need to be in a nursing home and women with cervical or breast cancer. - Women who are currently pregnant may qualify for the Pre-natal and Pregnant Women programs. They may continue coverage for up to 60 days after they give birth. Children aged newborn to 12 months whose mother participated in one of the above programs may qualify for the Post-natal program. Children up to 6 years old may qualify for the Newborn program and children age 6 to 18 may qualify for the “Newborn Plus” program. Children up to age 18 who do not qualify for one of these three programs may qualify for the Child program.
- The Prenatal, Post-natal and Newborn programs require the household income to be at or below 133 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. The Newborn Plus program requires the household income to be at or below 100 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. None of these programs allow a spend down. The financial requirements of the Pregnant Women and Child programs depend upon a percentage of the grant level and both have spend downs.
- To qualify for Utah Medicaid Programs, applicants must not exceed certain asset limits. For all of the programs mentioned, the asset limit is $2,000 for one person, $3,000 for two people and $25 for each additional person. If an applicant exceeds these limits, she may still qualify for the Child Health Insurance Program or CHIP, which has higher income limits and no asset limit.
