Mazda Miata Soft Top Installation

    • 1). Apply fender covers on top of the Miata's body and apply masking tape with paper at the back window's sides of the soft top to avoid damage.

    • 2). Remove the clips and screws that are fastened to the rear deck of the Miata's top, using a Philips screwdriver. Turn counterclockwise, and pull off the rear carpeting.

    • 3). Remove the rain rail's clips and 10-mm nuts from the back of the Miata soft top using a metric socket wrench. This is necessary to remove the rear metal bars from the top.

    • 4). Clasp the Miata soft top's front portion and pull it down halfway. Remove the metal set plate screws at the middle of the Miata soft top's fabric and frame using a slotted screwdriver. Remove the molding from the set plate, and then the weather strip mounts, using a Philips screwdriver.

    • 5). Remove the rivets from the Miata soft top's fabric using a rivet gun. Remove the cable spring and cable screw using a slotted screwdriver in order for the cable to be removed.

    • 6). Put a flat-blade screwdriver in-between the bows and pull the fabric off of the frame using your hands.

    • 7). Remove the rivets from the rain rail using a rivet gun. Remove the bolts using a metric socket wrench. Attach the rain rail to the new Miata soft top by reattaching the rivets and bolts, using the marked holes on the soft top fabric as a guide.

    • 8). Lay the new Miata soft top over the vehicle's frame, and reattach the cable using the strings found by the top's sides. Reattach the set plate, weather stripping, soft top's rear. Reattach the fabric with the Miata's top bows, Reattach the fabric's end with the end slot, and tighten the fabric using pliers.
