How to Install a Manual Update on Nook
- 1). Turn on your computer and open your Web browser.
- 2). Visit the Barnes & Noble Nook support page.
- 3). Scroll to the “All FAQ Topics” section and click “Software Updates.”
- 4). Click on the portion of text that says “Click here” to check for the latest updates. This will redirect you to a page featuring the most current Nook software.
- 5). Click on the “Get Version Today” for the latest update, then click to download and save the update file to your PC’s desktop
- 6). Turn on your Nook and make sure it has at least 20 percent of its battery life left, otherwise you risk premature shutdown during the manual update process.
- 7). Connect your Nook to the PC using a micro USB cable.
- 8). Click on the Windows “Start” button and click “Computer.”
- 9). Click and drag the recently downloaded Nook update file onto the Nook icon, located underneath the “Devices with removable storage” heading in the “Computer” window. A progress bar appears on screen, letting you know how long the file transfer will take.

Right-click on the “Nook” from within the “Computer” window after the file has finished transferring. Select “Eject” from the list of options. With the update file successfully transferred, the manual update is complete and you can begin using the latest Nook software right away.
