How do I Torque Down Heads for Inline 6 on a 1974 Chevy Nova?
- 1). Note each cylinder head's bolt number.
The middle bolt on the passenger's side of the cylinder head is bolt number one. Working towards the back of the passenger's side of the cylinder head from bolt one are bolt numbers five, nine and 13. Working toward the front of the passenger's side of the cylinder head from bolt one are bolt numbers four, eight and 12.
The middle bolt on the driver's side of the cylinder head is bolt number two. Working towards the back of the driver's side of the cylinder head from bolt two are bolt numbers six, ten and 14. Working toward the front of the driver's side of the cylinder head from bolt two are bolt numbers three, seven and 11. - 2). Torque each bolt to 40 foot-pounds of torque with a torque wrench in numerical sequence beginning with bolt number one and ending with bolt number 14.
- 3). Torque each bolt to its final torque setting of 95 foot-pounds of torque with a torque wrench in numerical sequence beginning with bolt number one and ending with bolt number 14.
