How to Change a 1995 Chevy Distributor Cap
- 1). Locate the distributor cap by following the spark plug wires from the plugs to the connection point on the distributor cap. The distributor cap will have all the spark plug wires connected to it.
- 2). Remove any retaining screws on the distributor cap. Several 1995 Chevrolet models do not have retaining screws, and the distributor cap is held in place by tension screws. For these, push down with a screwdriver, turn a quarter-turn, and release. Set any screws removed aside for later use.
- 3). Pull the coil wire from the center post of the distributor cap. Do not remove any of the spark plug wires.
- 4). Grasp both sides of the distributor cap and pull it directly up off the distributor. Set the distributor cap away from the housing with the wires still attached.
- 5). Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the posts of the new distributor cap. The grease will help keep moisture from impeding the electricity as it is transferred from the cap to the spark plug wires.
- 6). Place the new distributor cap on the distributor and secure it.
- 7). Transfer each wire, one at a time, to the new distributor cap. Each wire should be transferred to the exact same location on the new cap as the old one.
