How to Replace an ABS Controller in a Geo Metro
- 1). Determine which ABS controller your Geo Metro will need. You'll want to be sure the new controller is compatible with your make and model of Metro. The last generation of the Metro offered ABS as an option beginning in 1995.
- 2). Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Locate the ABS controller in the instrument panel just under the driver's side dashboard next to the door.
- 3). Remove the two mounting screws for the junction block with a socket wrench and detach the electrical connectors. Remove the junction block from the instrument panel.
- 4). Disconnect the electrical connectors for the ABS controller and remove the three mounting bolts for the ABS controller. You will now be able to remove the ABS controller from the vehicle.
- 5). Install the new ABS controller to the vehicle and use a torque wrench to tighten its mounting bolts to 71 in. lbs. Connect the ABS controller electrical connectors. Mount the junction block to the instrument panel and attach its electrical connectors. Use a socket wrench to tighten the mounting screws for the junction box.
- 6). Complete the installation by performing a diagnostic system check on the ABS controller. Connect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench.
