How to Change a High Beam Light on a Ford Contour 2000
- 1). Open the hood and unscrew the two upper headlight assembly retaining bolts with the ratchet and suitable-size socket.
- 2). Locate the lower headlight assembly retaining screw at the lower center of the assembly.
- 3). Unseat the headlight assembly by pulling it forward away from the Contour with your hands. You'll need to unseat the alignment guide pins, and they will give you some resistance.
- 4). Locate the high-beam headlight outlet at the back of the headlight assembly.
- 5). Disconnect the wire harness from high-beam headlight socket.
- 6). Turn the round headlight retainer counterclockwise 1/4-turn to release it from the headlight assembly.
- 7). Remove the old high-beam headlight from the round headlight retainer and then discard the headlight.
- 8). Use a cloth to handle the new replacement 9005 high-beam headlight. This will prevent the oils or dirt on your skin from compromising the shelf-life of the replacement bulb.
- 9). Insert the new replacement bulb into the headlight retainer and then align the notches of the retainer to the grooved slots in the headlight assembly.
