How to Repair a Vinyl Boat Chair
- 1). Cut a piece of vinyl that will cover the tear with approximately an inch around the tear.
- 2). Gently clean the area with vinyl cleaner. Allow to dry. Vinyl cleaner can be purchased at most major department stores.
- 3). Roughen up the area. Gently sand the area around the tear with light sandpaper. This will assist with the bonding between the glue and the new piece of vinyl.
- 4). Using a thin paintbrush, apply the adhesive to the sanded areas around the tear. Do not use too much adhesive or it will seep out around the patch.
- 5). Gently press the patch over the tear. Remove creases, wrinkles and air bubbles in the patch by carefully smoothing over the patch with your hand. Let the patch sit for 24 hours.
- 6). Apply vinyl paint with thin even strokes over the patch using the 3-inch brush. Allow the coat to dry, and apply a second coat if necessary.
- 1). Thread the needle with approximately three feet of cotton thread.
- 2). Start a half-inch above the seam tear and sew the seam using either a baseball or cross stitch. Make sure both sides are pulled together tightly. Tie off the thread and cut the excess with scissors.
- 3). Secure the knot. Apply some adhesive to the knot to keep it from fraying.
