How to Know if a Saturn Vue's Transmission Is Bad
- 1). Familiarize yourself, if possible, with how your Saturn Vue's automatic transmission shifts when it is working properly. This will help you be alert to delayed or slow shifting, which can be signs that your transmission is going bad.
- 2). Listen for any unusual signs like grating, rumbling, whining, clunking or clanking when your Saturn Vue is in gear. These may be signs of a failing transmission. A low hum or whine, whether the Vue is in neutral, park or a drive gear, may also indicate transmission problems.
- 3). Check if your "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light is on. If it is on, this may indicate transmission problems, or it might indicate engine problems---have your Saturn Vue inspected by an auto service professional immediately.
- 4). Shift the vehicle into drive or reverse and give it a little gas. If it doesn't move at all, or if the engine labors or stalls as movement begins, you probably have transmission problems.
- 5). Be alert for burnt or rancid odors coming from underneath your vehicle or beneath the hood, or fresh fluid leaks underneath the car---these may indicate transmission problems.
