How to Change Fuel Filter on 2000 Ford F-150
- 1). Park the 2000 Ford F-150 on a level surface and turn the engine off. Unscrew the gas cap from the gas tank to relieve the gas pressure from the fuel filter.
- 2). Crawl under the passenger's side of the truck near the rear tire. Locate the fuel filter that is mounted inside the passenger's side frame rail between the fuel tank and the rear tire.
- 3). Remove the safety clips on both sides of the fuel filter with a flat head screwdriver. The safety clips are attached to the fuel line on one end and to the fuel filter on the other end. Pry up on the safety clip and they will come off.
- 4). Slide the fluid catch pan under the fuel filter. Slide the quick disconnect tool inside the end of the fuel line where the fuel line connects to the fuel filter. Push the quick disconnect tool inward and pull out on the fuel line at the same time. The fuel line will come straight off. Let the little bit of excess from the fuel line run into the catch pan. Use the quick disconnect tool on both sides of the fuel filter.
- 5). Slide the fuel filter out of the round bracket. Discard the fuel filter into the fluid catch pan. Slide the new fuel filter into the bracket with the flow arrow on the fuel filter pointing towards the engine and away from the gas tank.
- 6). Slide the fuel lines straight onto the ends of the fuel filter until you feel them lock in place. Then gently pull back on the fuel lines to ensure that they are locked onto the fuel filter. Slide the catch pan out from under the truck.
- 7). Screw the gas cap back onto the gas tank. Turn the ignition on and off three different times to prime and fill the fuel filter with fuel. Crank the truck up and inspect the fuel filter and the fuel lines while the engine is idling. Turn the engine off.
