How to Steam Vacuum Floors
- 1). Remove furniture from the room. Leave large furniture pieces, such as couches or televisions, if you cannot move them. Cover the items with bed sheets and unplug electrical components.
- 2). Vacuum the carpet with your regular sweeper to remove surface dirt.
- 3). Fill the water tank with hot water and the recommended amount of cleaner. The water tank has fill lines to guide you on how much liquid to pour into it. Replace the tank onto the steam cleaner.
- 4). Turn on the steam cleaner and start at the far end of the room. Your cleaner may have a release mechanism that you hold down to distribute the soapy water as you glide it across the floor. After dispensing the soap, release the mechanism and run the machine back and forth over the carpet several times to soak up soap and water. Read the instruction manual before operating the steam cleaner.
- 5). Empty the water reservoir when it becomes full. Empty it outside if possible, or run hot water as you pour it down the sink. When finished, rinse the reservoir with hot water to clean out dirt and grime. Dry it and the water tank inside and out with a towel before placing it back on the cleaner to prevent mildew growth.
- 6). Open windows and turn on overhead fans to help dry the carpet.
