How to Get Animals Out of Your Roof
- 1). Find out how the animals get on to your roof and into your attic. Chewed ceilings and rotten smells associated with animal wastes indicate that the animals nest within the attic. If there are no such signs, inspect the top of the roof. A possible means could be adjacent loosely hanging tree branches. Check the spaces between tiles on a tile roof for potential entry points.
- 2). Choose the appropriate action to deal with the animal invaders. You may choose to use a live trap to safely capture the bigger animals such as raccoons and possums. Once you capture them, set them free far from your residence. Possums are released 50 meters from your house. Release birds immediately.
- 3). Deploy the services of exterminators who are professionals in the safe capturing of animals and their resettlement elsewhere. Other methods to get rid of the intruders are poison, electrocution and glue boards. The electrocution box has an electric shock trigger masqueraded with food bait that lures the animals, mostly mice. It sets off when the animal accesses the food. The traps, electrocution boxes and glue boards are bought from your local hardware store.
- 4). Deal with the animal. Where live traps have been used, release the animal. In order to deal with bats, place wire meshes around the way you suspect the bats get in. Snap traps and electrocution boxes require you to clean up after the dead animal.
- 5). Cut loosely hanging branches adjacent to your roof to prevent further invasion. Repair holes in your roof or attic through which animals might have entered.
