How to Troubleshoot Orbit Sprinklers
- 1). Inspect the outside and top of the Orbit sprinkler for signs of damage while the sprinklers are running. Errant spraying or leaks from the base are signs of trouble.
- 2). Turn off the sprinkler system.
- 3). Pull the sprinkler nozzle up and inspect the small opening. If it is crush or mangled, it will have to be replaced. In that case, unscrew the nozzle by turning it counterclockwise and screw a new Orbit replacement nozzle onto the riser.
- 4). Inspect the filter by removing the nozzle. Pull out the small plastic filter from inside the sprinkler body. If the filter appears dirty or clogged, run it under tap water for 30 seconds and gently tap it on a solid surface to remove debris. Insert the filter back into the body and tighten the nozzle.
- 5). Remove about 6 inches of dirt from around the base of the sprinkler, using the hand shovel. Clear enough dirt so you can see the body of the sprinkler. If you see cracks or other damage, the entire unit will need to be replaced. In that case, unscrew the entire sprinkler body from the riser below the unit until it pulls free. Place a new Orbit sprinkler on the riser and tighten by hand. Replace the dirt around the base.
