  If you are asked to clean a home, it can be difficult to figure out what that exactly entails if you are not used to cleaning. Cleaning a house involves much more than simply putting away items and ensuring that the house is not messy. It also includes removing particles from the floors, removing dust and disinfecting the house of germs and bacteria.
  
  

Clean Up

• Start by cleaning up the house. This means removing toys from the floors, returning items, such as movies and books, to the cabinets where they belong, removing clothes from bedroom areas and clearing the kitchen counter by placing dirty dishes in the dishwashing machine and clean dishes in the cupboards. Storing away items prior to starting the cleaning process will make it easier to get all of the dirt and grime.
  
  

Vacuum

• Vacuum all of the floors, especially the corners, of your home, whether you have hardwood floors or carpets. Carpets can easily appear dirty and grungy, so vacuum them regularly to avoid a permanently stained carpet. Hardwood floors cannot absorb dirt in the same way as carpets, so the dirt will lie on the surface and travel around until it is vacuumed.
  
  

Wash the Floors

• Wash the floors after you have finished vacuuming. If you have carpets, use a carpet cleaner to suck out dirt and grime. If you have hardwood or tile floors, simply use a mop and soap designed for floor cleaning. While the vacuum will remove larger debris and dust balls, the mopping will remove dirt that may not be as obvious.
  
  

Dust Objects and Shelves

• Remove dust from shelves and objects in the home. This can be done with a duster or damp cloth. Wipe down cabinets, table surfaces, storage units and individual objects, like books or decorations. If you use a duster, ensure that you open a window or a door, as the dust may end up flying around in the home.
  
  

Disinfect Surfaces

• Use a antibacterial cleaner on surfaces that you frequently use. Examples include the kitchen counters and sink, as well as the bathroom sink, counter and toilet. According to To Do List Soft, you should also wipe down the top of the freezer and disinfect all visible areas in the kitchen.
