    • 1). Sand the stain area starting with the heavy grit sandpaper, then medium until the sealant is gone, then finish with the fine paper.

    • 2). This step requires EXTREME care. You will need to apply the acid/bleaching solution to the stain. YOU MUST FOLLOW ALL PRECAUTIONS and INSTRUCTIONS for the product you have chosen. It may take a few bleaching sessions to get rid of the stain, and you may have to use the steel wool, also.

    • 3). When you have gotten the stain bleached out, then clean the area with a few teaspoons of vinegar in a quart of tepid water with a soft, clean, white cloth. Allow the area to dry thoroughly, preferably overnight.

    • 4). Now re-stain the area. This is probably the trickiest step, as you will have to apply the stain in light, gradual applications to insure that you match the original stain as closely as possible. You can also use wood stain touch up pens to "feather" or blend the outer edges of the area.

    • 5). Now apply the sealant. Again, you will have to do this gradually so you can blend this into the existing application.
