How to Fix Windows XP Home
- 1). Click "Start."
- 2). Click "Programs."
- 3). Click "Accessories."
- 4). Right click on "System Tools" and click "Explore." This will open the contents of the "System Tools" folder in a new window on screen.
- 5). Open the "Disk Cleanup" icon to remove any unnecessary and obsolete files from your computer's hard drive. This will free up hard drive space and fix any performance related issues that this particular phenomenon was causing.
Open the "Disk Defragmenter" icon to defragment your Windows XP Home Edition's hard drive. This will physically rearrange all of the various files and folders on your hard drive in such a way that your operating system will be able to more easily access them. This will greatly speed up the performance of your machine and fix any issues that this was causing. Don't worry--the locations of your files and folders will not change. All that is changing is the way they are being stored on your hard drive.
Open the "System Restore" icon to roll back your computer to the way it was working on an earlier date. If you run "Disk Cleanup" and "Disk Defragmenter" and still experience issues, this is your best bet at correcting the problem. Run the "System Restore" software and then select a date in the past from the calendar that you'd like to roll your computer back to. This will change the settings on your computer back to the way they were performing at that time, which will in turn fix any issues that have occurred since then.
